The tree with the lights in it.

A stormy history.

Last night my dad woke my sister and me up in the middle of the night and told us to go down to the basement to sleep. There were 70 mph winds outside, and my parents worried one of their old, tall oak trees would fall on the house. The electricity was out and you could hear the wind howling outside. We woke to find the power back on and a tree branch on one of the cars outside, but the house was safe. Once my family went to Lake Michigan and came home to find a tree fallen on the house, with a branch protruding through my sister's bedroom wall. I have several memories of candlelit dinners in the basement during loud thunderstorms. The day I got my hamster in third grade, a tornado funneled through town. One day the electricity went off in second grade and the teacher read us ghost stories by flashlight. Another time there was such a terrible storm approaching, my mom came and picked us up early from school.
Today it is snowing and I can't hear out of my left ear.
