It was less like seeing than like being for the first time seen...

12 January 2008

Infinite year.

I heard 2008 is the year of infinity, and that everything is going to cycle back in on itself this year. So far I have spent each day of 2008 thinking it's one day later than it actually is.
Calendar year changes don't actually mean much. The earth's just been spinning around moment by moment and the changes that happen on earth are mostly gradual ones, but sometimes they are sudden ones. And they almost never occur just because of a manmade, flawed, 365-day, 12-month calendar system. It's a little like birthdays. I may be 23 years old, but I've just been waking up and going to sleep every day since the day I was born, and this is where that succession of nights and days has gotten me so far. I don't feel all that different from my childhood self.

"Each atom of that stone, each mineral flake of that night filled mountain, in itself forms a world. The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy."
